OUR VISION
It is the vision of Southernwood Primary School, as a Full-Service School, to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support and contribute to the development of highly informed, well-rounded children academically as well as socially, in order to free the potential in all children in our care.
MISSION
STATEMENT
To address this mission, the Southernwood Primary School will:
- Provide a safe and secure environment where children enjoy learning.
- Strive to help each individual to attain his or her full academic potential through the development of skills, the encouragement of creativity and the assumption of responsibility; within the scope of his/ her ability.
- Provide a quality Inclusive learning environment that is responsive to the learner’s voice.
- Provide highly effective teachers, focused on improving learners’ outcomes, through their commitment to ongoing professional development, quality teaching, evidence-based practices, coaching and mentoring and collaboration.
- Develop in each child a sound moral character acquired through personal spiritual growth, relying on a movement from enforced to self-discipline, self-control and self-respect.
- Recognise each child as an individual whose dignity is respected and whose sense of self-worth is promoted.
- Provide balanced education. Incorporating an active mind and a healthy body through involvement in sporting and cultural activities.
- Give children opportunities and space to communicate effectively and working co-operatively.
- Encourage children to show respect towards themselves and others regardless of differences.
- Work in partnership with you, the Southernwood Primary community.
- Develop a sense of democratic practices amongst the school community (i.e. staff, parents, DOE & children).
- Strive to inculcate a spirit of loyalty and pride in our school and its traditions.
- Measure our success in terms of confident, happy children, equipped to face the challenge of the modern world with a sense of righteousness, courage, dignity and an understanding of their fellow man.
